This beautiful space is in the Jewellery Quarter. It exists above the Argent College or The Hive Café on Vittoria Street. The Argent is part of the Ruskin group that run the Glasshouse in Stourbridge where I have my studio.
The print is a little unusual for me, I tried something a bit different. I worked with two plates; the first plate was a blank styrene sheet that I used to build up layers of monotype. The second plate is the key block. Rather than inking it up in one go, I inked up sections and printed, wiping away and inking up another area, carefully placing the plate in the same place and running it through the press again. The same key block is inked four or five times with different colours. It creates quite a loose feel to the print that is very hard to recreate print by print consistently. I therefore added ‘EV’ to the edition label which means edition varies.
