Aston Webb Building

This stunning building is hard to do justice to. I focussed upon the detail in the architecture, with most of the print being created in the technique of engraving. I believe that inside is also quite spectacular and perhaps it is a place I will return to.

This print came about while I was exhibiting the views at Winterbourne House and Gardens up the road. I really wanted to do one of Winterbourne and still hope to do so, but in between visits I made a detour to the Aston Webb building and it was a case of ‘I must create a view of that building immediately’. The sky in the print is monotype. I build up layers of dark blues which have to be completely dry (about a week depending upon the weather in my workshop) before putting on two layers of a very light and opaque grey / blue / green / white.
