This was the first view that I completed that included Birmingham’s much feted canal system. I stood on a little island in the Gas Street Basin area and looked down towards the Mailbox and Cube buildings.
One of my intentions with this print was to capture a shadowless, milky light. I am keen to depict different weather conditions in the series and this along with its partner print Gas Street Basin, is particularly representative of a cold, grey day in Birmingham. The beetroot pink is the same that I used in St Philip’s Fox and is included for a similar reason – it is almost an obstacle to overcome and fight against as subsequent layers are added.
I would love to return here later in the series, a sunny canal trip perhaps.
Prints can take up to two weeks to come but I aim to be much quicker.
I have a small number of these left as original prints.
