Yorks on Stephenson Street
The tram line had just been extended when I made this print and the trams were shiny grey and pink. Did they need to change it so soon? One of the original prints can be seen in the café.
The LOS on the ground isn’t a typo, apparently it tells the driver to expect a loss of signal. A bit worrying.
I used a method that has become tried and true for this print – I started with a very dark layer and added lighter opaque layers over the top. I struggled with the paper: it was put under so much pressure by the press that I could not stop it buckling slightly and of course this is seen in the giclee as well. I may have changed your perception of it forever but it is best to mention it methinks. It is still a lovely print and was an early one for me in using monoprint.
I do love this building and the café too.
I do have some of the original prints left from this view, priced at £150. This listing is for the open edition, signed giclée. If you are interested in the original please contact me directly and I will send photos of the original print that I have available.
