I have visited this street many times, always seduced by the lights in the trees, as I am by the lights across Floodgate Street in Digbeth (future view). This is my most direct referral to lockdown in my 100 views. One of the features of lockdown for me has been the sound of birds outside in my garden. Usually we only really get the odd bedraggled magpie or pigeon, but the lack of people activity has brought in smaller songbirds. Are there more of them, or are they just more spread out? The lone, masked cyclist could be getting his permitted daily exercise or perhaps he is delivering take away.
Once they reopen, I’m really looking forward to making a visit to the Back to Backs and sketching a composition for another view.
This print was put together using an engraved key block that was scanned as a series of printed layers and joined together in Photoshop. The intention is to recreate it as an original print in the future but in the meantime it exists only as a giclée.
If you want to purchase the giclée print, delivery can take as long as two weeks but I aim to be as quick as possible.
